This morning we begin a most fascinating section of Romans, but also an often-misunderstood section of Romans. Romans 9-11 is a section of this book that is filled with doctrine that is both essential and practical and it is a section that is focused on the nation of Israel as God’s chosen people.

This is possibly the strangest Easter that any of us have ever had. But our circumstances do not change the fact that on this day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the tomb is empty, and the Lord of Glory is risen. Praise God!

In Romans 8:28 we have a wonderful promise made by God to Christians, it is a promise of eternal security, or once saved always saved. This promise can easily be divided into four parts: first, knowing we are secure; second, our security in all things; third, those who are eternally secure; and fourth, the source of our security.

This morning we come to a verse that is probably familiar to a lot of you. It is a verse that I believe is often quoted out of context and because of this I believe that we need to look more closely at it. So, for this morning we are going to begin to look at just one verse, keeping my promise that we will be in Romans 8 for a long time.

Two weeks ago we began a new section in chapter 8 in which we have three groans for deliverance from the corruption of sin: the groan of creation which we looked at two weeks ago, the groan of believers which we will look at today, and the groan of the Holy Spirit which we will look at next week, Lord willing.
