Luke the writer of this Gospel writes for us the parallel events of a couple in the Judean hill country and of Mary from the town of Nazareth, though they are parallel they are also intertwined. Luke begins with the birth announcement of John, then he writes of the birth announcement of Jesus, then he goes back to Zacharias and Elizabeth and writes about the birth of John and then after writing about the birth of John he writes about the birth of Jesus. Two parallel paths one about the forerunner of the Messiah and one about the Messiah.

Christmas is almost upon us, in just two days the day which we have set aside to celebrate the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ will arrive. As I began studying this week for this morning three themes kept jumping out at me that were prophecies in the Old Testament that had to be fulfilled in the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ for Him to be the promised Messiah, the Deliverer that was to come.

As I promised last week we will be in the book of Isaiah again, I want to begin look at a prophecy that might be considered the most classic prophecy regarding the coming of Jesus Christ. Again, like last week I would like to look at the background surrounding this prophecy and examine Isaiah’s view of the birth of the Messiah. As I considered just focusing on two verses this morning I began by studying the context surrounding these verses and I thought that it was important to include some of this context in this message.
